About Us

Akmal Fast Food & Sweet Center originally started in Frankfurt, Germany 40 years ago. Before opening our current location, Suraya's Indian kitchen, we started our humble beginnings at the Makuu Farmers Market & Hilo Farmers Market. Over time, we expanded to various festivals like the Chinese Festival, Merrie Monarch, World Heritage Festival, Ho'olaulea and the Bob Marley Festival. In 2005 Akmals opened up our first and only location off of West Lanikaula. In 2009, we moved to Haili Street, across from the Lyman Museum in Hilo. Suraya's Indian Kitchen is currently located in downtown Hilo at the historic Kress Building on Kamehameha Avenue.

Akmal Foods is our new wholesale business. We carry serval flavores of our popular item "Lassi to go" available at several health food stores & grocery stores on the island.

We love what we do, and we hope it shows in our Indian and Pakistani style cuisine.
